Biography

Susan A. Ogwal-Elisu, Ph.D. (Dr. O), originally from Uganda, is an educator, scholar, and advocate with a Doctorate in Education Policy, Organization, and Leadership from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her work is driven by a deep passion for global education and a commitment to bridging the gap in learning spaces. Dr. Ogwal's academic research centers on the intersection of higher education, immigration,  international education and public policy as it relates to workforce development. Her most recent co-authored publication, “An Affect-Centered Analysis of Congolese Immigrant Parent Perspectives on Past, Present, and Future Learning in School and at Home,” appears in the book Educating African Immigrant Youth: Schooling and Civic Engagement in K–12 Schools.

In recent years, Dr. Ogwal-Elisu previously served the State of Illinois as a Policy scholar & Director, where she facilitated initiatives focused on agricultural equity & food insecurity, educator diversity, telehealth in rural communities, women and girls in leadership and more.  In addition, as a student engagement representative,  supported college students and their families in navigating affordable pathways to higher education.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Dr. Ogwal-Elisu is a dedicated  leader and  advocate. She co-founded the C-U Black and African Arts Festival and remains actively involved as a community navigator and mentor.
